About the Artist Brent: From age 24 Brent and his Indigenous wife Nakamarra started a not-for-profit to stop art exploitation of her people. Brent managed 167 Indigenous Warlpiri artists and was well versed in dot painting, and yet felt he could not ‘draw a straight line’… After being told over and over "you have to paint" by Indigenous elders for almost three years, Brent finally began painting with dots at age 26. There is a great misconception about dots being owned by indigenous people. Dots are a universal art form for everybody. It it is the sacred Indigenous designs that should not be copied or reproduced, as they pertain to the Spiritual Dreamtime that has both cultural and life preserving significance that only initiated people are privy to.
